This highly irreverent and satirical black comedy recounts the daily tragedies of a group of ambulance drivers at a run-down company in 1970s California. A smart-aleck blend of television's TAXI and M*A*S*H and precursor to BRINGING OUT THE DEAD, the film is set at the F&B ambulance company, which is the home away from home for a motley crew of drivers obsessed with bringing in more patients than their competition while working their respective shifts. Bill Cosby stars as Mother, the wisecracking leader who plays by his own rules and drives with his loyal partner, Leroy (Bruce Davison). Together, Mother and Leroy encounter a wide variety of adventures as they race around town looking for calamity and disaster. Jugs (Raquel Welch) is the aptly nicknamed buxom secretary who consistently dismisses the advances of the lewd and crude drivers while secretly studying to become the first female driver at F&B--until she meets Speed (Harvey Keitel), an ex-cop and Vietnam vet under investigation for drug charges who joins the F&B crew. As the company teeters near bankruptcy and disaster strikes, the drivers must band together to keep their struggling company afloat. Shot in an episodic style that combines wildly raunchy humor with gritty and dark tragedy, this wild ride is a highly original fast-paced romp. In the reverse rags-to-riches story of DICKIE ROBERTS: FORMER CHILD STAR, writer/actor David Spade's string of infectious laughs turn into waves of compassion. Former child star Dickie Roberts (Spade) has wound up working as a valet, dodging insults and lamely making attempts to regain his former glory with the help of his equally down-and-out agent, Sidney Wernick (Jon Lovitz). His buddy, the real-life recovering child star Leif Garrett, tells Dickie about a role in a Rob Reiner film that could revive Dickie's acting career. But Reiner is not convinced Dickie, whose mother and father left him at an early age, knows enough about normal life to nail the role. Dickie shows his commitment to the craft by moving in with a hired surrogate family to replicate the idea of childhood, but does not win points with his new Mom (Mary McCormack) when he introduces her kids to repugnant table manners, irreverent behavior, and foul language. As he absorbs the true meaning of tenderness and family, Dickie finally proves that he has something to offer each one of them.Spade and executive producer Adam Sandler find classic comedy in this retro theme, which includes appearances from former child stars like Danny Bonaduce (Danny in THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY) and Barry Williams (Greg from THE BRADY BUNCH). Based on the popular British comedy of the same name, THE OFFICE uses the same mockumentary style and humor derived from awkward social situations. However, it has managed to establish its own fanbase and identity apart from the shadow of the original. In this well-conceived Elizabethan comedy, writers Tom Stoppard and Marc Norman ask the question: Who was William Shakespeare's muse? The answer: Viola de Lesseps, a young noblewoman who dreams of acting on a man's stage. The screenwriters deliver a cleverly crafted scenario which beautifully illustrates both the early aspirations of the playwright, and a glimpse into the culture of Elizabethan theater. Colorful characters, like the Globe theater owner Henslow (played by Geoffrey Rush), the lead player in the troupe (Ben Affleck), and the Queen herself (Judi Dench), give the cast charm, wit, and feasibility.
The young playwright who at the start of the film is experiencing writer's block bursts forth with a lyrical text inspired by the lovely and passionate Viola.
