THE SPORTS PAGES consists of two short comedies exploring the impact of professional sports on the lives of everyday people. The first story, HOW DOC WADDEMS FINALLY BROKE 100, concerns a golfing fanatic (Bob Newhart) on trial for the murder of his putting partner (Kelsey Grammer), who had been tormenting him throughout their game. College sweethearts Tom (Steve Martin) and Kate (Bonnie Hunt) both dreamed of having a huge family and fulfilling careers. But after they had a few kids, Kate gave up her career as a sportswriter, Tom abandoned his hope of becoming the coach of their alma mater`s football team, and they moved their brood from the city to the country. Now, after twelve children and a happy life in rural Illinois, Tom has been offered the chance to live his dream and coach the Stallions. No sooner does the family pack up and move to Chicago to pursue Tom`s dream job then Kate`s ship comes in as well; a publisher has picked up her manuscript based on her experiences raising twelve children. Of course, there`s a hitch. Kate has to go to New York for a few days, leaving Tom as the primary care giver for his clan. Can Tom hold it together with his kids--who didn`t want to move in the first place--pulling him one way and the university pulling him the other? Shawn Levy directs this likable update of the 1950 film of the same title which was based on a true story.

Based on his near-career-ending experience with the box-office disaster DARLING LILI, Blake Edwards fashioned a corrosive behind-the-scenes satire of the business in which he had long plied his trade.The film stars Richard Mulligan as Felix Farmer, a once-successful director whose career is on the slide because of the colossal failure of his $30 million G-rated musical. In desperation he hatches a plan to revive his career: Buy back the film and remake it, adding new pornographic footage to render it a more marketable box-office commodity. He believes that the key to the film's success will be the willingness of his ex-wife, Sally Miles (Julie Andrews), to dispense with her sweetly wholesome image and bare her breasts onscreen. To reach his goal, Farmer has to wade through a river of egomanical producers, wildly pretentious directors, knife-wielding industry gossips, sneaky editors, and even a dissipated doctor--or quack, as he prefers to be called. This bittersweet teen comedy from director Jordan Brady (WAKING UP IN RENO) follows the travails of Rena (Jena Malone), a teenager who dreams of an impossibly utopian existence. Sat sadly slumped in an interminable trailer park world, her calamitous circumstances take a further downturn when her boyfriend hotfoots it out of her life after learning that Rena is pregnant. With a world-weary sigh she instead focuses her attentions on her errant father, who is spending time behind bars due to a barbarous murder. The yearly prison picnic provides an opportunity for Rena to bring the family along, and after some cajoling, they attend.
