This is a very artfully done horror film that has little blood, but plenty to boggle the mind. The Bonomiya family hails from a long line of ancestors extending back thousands of years. All family members are bound by certain traditions that they must uphold. They have, for example, rejected the use of many modern conveniences. It is said that the women in the family are supposed to watch over evil spirits (inugami). If they do not, or use spirits for questionable purposes, the spirits go on a bloodthirsty rampage throughout the village. From this lineage has come Miki, a middle-aged, unmarried paper making artist who lives in the village where her family fled from Kyoto 900 years ago. The arrival of a young schoolteacher, Akira, sets off a chain of strange events. As Miki finds herself falling in love with Akira, she magically starts becoming younger. The Doi family (the Bonomiyas' rivals in a nearby village) is horrified by the sudden change in Miki, and starts to spread panic about the cursed Bonomiyas. This is a family drama, ghost story, and quasi vampire tale by one of Japan's most provocative directors. Formerly a journalist, director Masato Harada makes good use of his experience a sharp social critic. His films descry inhumane social values and outdated, dysfunctional family traditions that prevents individuals from reaching their potential and keep them forever spinning in circles.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital 2.0 - Japanese DTS 5.1 - JapaneseAdditional Release Material: Trailers
