The Wayans brothers scored a surprise monster hit with SCARY MOVIE, and in the advertising for that film they promised no sequel. So here it is, SCARY MOVIE 2, featuring the return of Shawn and Marlon Wayans as well as Anna Faris and Regina Hall in addition to some new faces added to the gross-out fun, including Chris Elliott as a caretaker with a deformed hand that he uses extensively in his cooking, Tim Curry as a professor with a thing for the girls, David Cross as a wheelchair-bound computer geek with a great combover, and Tori Spelling as a hot teenager looking for some ghostly action. The movie begins with a prologue that spoofs THE EXORCIST, with Andy Richter as the young priest, James Woods as the old priest, and Natasha Lyonne as the poor possessed child with the salty tongue. From there the plot uses and abuses from Shirley Jackson's THE HAUNTING--in this case, a group of college students must spend a weekend in a haunted castle in exchange for receiving an A from their naughty professor. Once again Keenen Ivory Wayans directs, this time borrowing liberally from such classic (and not-so-classic) films as THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, FRIDAY THE 13TH, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, POLTERGEIST, GHOSTBUSTERS, AMERICAN PIE, PAULIE, THE ENTITY, THE INVISIBLE MAN, DIRTY HARRY, WHAT LIES BENEATH, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, ROCKY, CAT PEOPLE, THE FOG, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, TWISTER, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, M:I-2, and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, among countless others.

The fridge is packed with pudding, their girlfriends--The Twins--are ticked off, and somehow Jesse's car has disappeared. So the hapless stoners set out to find the car, which happens to have their girlfriends' anniversary presents in it. But they soon discover that losing the car isn't half the story. High school hottie Christie (Kristy Swanson) is mysteriously hot for Jesse, Chester is a favorite customer at the local topless club, and they owe a suitcase full of money to a transvestite stripper. On top of all that, they're being pursued by a minivan full of geeks, horny space babes, and a couple of totally gay Scandinavian dudes--all trying to find the continuum transfunctioner, the device that can save or destroy the universe. Duuude....DUDE's comic formula is pretty simple: throw the dudes in one bizarre situation after another and watch them goof their way out. Given the movie's PG-13 rating, it all lands on the lighter side of the teen-comedy spectrum, and if angry ostriches, donut-loving cops, a 50-foot bimbo in a miniskirt, and a pot-smoking dog sound like a good combo, DUDE has got a deal for you.

George Clooney establishes himself as a true Hollywood movie star and heir to the Cary Grant throne in this hysterical dark romantic comedy from the Coen brothers. Clooney plays Miles Massey, an unhappy and lonely divorce lawyer who specializes in protecting the wealth of men who have been caught cheating by their wives. But when Marilyn Rexroth (Catherine Zeta-Jones, who has never looked better) walks into his office, he thinks he might be in love, leading to a thrilling cat-and-mouse battle of the sexes in which audiences never know who's scamming whom and whether true love is ever attainable--especially when there is a lot of money at stake.Much has been made of the Coens' venture into mainstream movies, but INTOLERABLE CRUELTY fits in well in their pantheon of unusual and highly entertaining films, including THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, THE BIG LEBOWSKI, and BLOOD SIMPLE. Clooney and Zeta-Jones light up the screen, and they get ample support from Billy Bob Thornton as a rich country bumpkin oil magnate, Julia Duffy as a poor little rich girl, Richard Jenkins as a low-rent lawyer, Edward Herrmann as a train-loving naughty boy, Geoffrey Rush as an eccentric television producer, Cedric the Entertainer as an outrageous private investigator, and the inimitable Irwin Keyes as bizarre hit man Wheezy Joe. Fast-paced dialogue, gorgeous settings, and Clooney's facial gestures combine for a whirlwind film that is both fun and funny. The soundtrack contains many Simon& Garfunkel songs, in two cases riotously performed by a folksinging priest and a Las Vegas chapel bagpiper.
