In Mike Nichols's PRIMARY COLORS, America's topsy-turvy political process is viewed through the eyes of Henry Burton (Adrian Lester), an idealistic young man who is seduced into managing the presidential campaign of slick southern governor Jack Stanton (John Travolta). The mesmerized Burton immediately sets up campaign headquarters and meets his new political family: Susan Stanton (Emma Thompson), Jack's wife and partner; Richard Jemmons (Billy Bob Thornton), the sly, improbable political strategist who proudly describes himself as a redneck; Libby Holden (Kathy Bates), the fanatically loyal, overtly lesbian campaign troubleshooter who always has a big mouth and occasionally carries a big gun to match; and Daisy (Maura Tierney), the young, smart, and looking-for-love campaign media adviser. The film is based on the controversial best-selling novel by Anonymous (Joe Klein). The British comedy world was turned upside down in the 1960s when a bunch of young Cambridge graduates brought some biting satire to the stage in a revue called BEYOND THE FRINGE. Alan Bennett, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, and Jonathan Miller served as both writers and performers, dressing up as thinly disguised parodies of establishment figures--something that was unheard of at the time. This led to the birth of the anti-establishment movement in comedy, and proved to be a huge influence on future generations of comedians; always looking to put a good pun to use, Cook even opened up a comedy/cabaret club in London called The Establishment. For many years it was thought that all remaining film of BEYOND THE FRINGE had been destroyed, but this performance from 1964 surfaced in 2005, and was one of the last shows the troupe ever staged together. Bennett, Cook, Moore, and Miller work their way through some vintage routines that have become the stuff of legend in the comedy world, and for many viewers it will be a long-awaited pleasure to finally laugh along with sketches such as

Wylie Cooper (Dudley Moore) is an Army engineer who is convinced a new super tank he designed bears some faulty equipment. T.M. Landry (Eddie Murphy) is an Army soldier who tests Cooper's tank in a combat zone in Kuwait two years later. Set in a strange, colorful land populated by fairy tale characters, SHREK is a hilarious comedy that will win over audiences of children and adults alike. Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) is a fearsome green ogre living in isolation in his own cozy little swamp. He is not receptive to visitors, and fends off the occasional party of torch-wielding villagers with ease.
