THE NUTTY PROFESSOR: Eddie Murphy stars as a grossly overweight chemistry professor in this update of the classic 1963 Jerry Lewis comedy. Eager to reinvent himself and to ease his loneliness, the professor develops a potion that magically transforms him into a lean, mean, sex machine, capable of seducing any woman in sight, but he loses his niceness along the way. Academy Award Nomination: Best Makeup.THE NUTTY PROFESSOR II: Everything is coming up roses for Professor Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy). His fiancie, the equally brilliant Denise Gaines (pop music star Janet Jackson), loves him for his prodigious mind. Sherman`s university has just been offered $150 million for the radical new youth serum Sherman has developed. And the big-eating, trash-talking Klump clan (all played by Murphy) couldn`t be happier. The only person who can ruin things now is Sherman`s nemesis: his id-like alter ego, the smooth-talking, flashy dressing Buddy Love (also played by Murphy). In an attempt to destroy Buddy once and for all, Sherman manages to locate and extract the DNA strand that represents the last remaining trace of his own private Mr. Hyde. But the gene accidentally mutates with a strand of dog hair, giving birth to a brave new Buddy who sniffs out the Klumps. With the help of Academy Award-winning makeup wizard Rick Baker, Murphy magically disappears into multiple roles for uproarious results. NUTTY PROFESSOR II is a hilarious sequel to the 1996 remake.

From British director Nigel Cole, whose sweet-hearted comedies CALENDAR GIRLS and SAVING GRACE shared a similar combination of humor and true emotion, A LOT LIKE LOVE is the story of two friends who seem destined to love each other--if they can ever realize that themselves. Meeting on a flight from Los Angeles to New York, naive Oliver (Ashton Kutcher) and tough Emily (Amanda Peet) have sex in an airplane lavatory before learning each other's names. Despite this intimate introduction, Emily is uninterested in getting to know the guy she just picked up, telling Oliver frankly that he's not her type. The two part ways, but end up running into each other hours later in what proves to be just the first of many semi-coincidental romantic encounters. After spending a fun day together in the city, Oliver gives Emily his home number and tells her to call him in 6 years, once he's gotten his life and career figured out. When an unforeseen breakup leaves Emily dateless for New Year's Eve a few years later, she calls Oliver and they meet again. In the years that have passed since their first meeting, Emily has taken up acting, Oliver has started an online diaper-selling business, and both have gotten more flattering haircuts. But Emily is disappointed to learn that Oliver is moving to San Francisco for business the next day. Over the course of a few years, Emily and Oliver grow to depend on each other in times of crisis, and develop a solid friendship. While each sporadic encounter contains an undeniable spark, the timing never seems to be right, with several bad relationships, career transitions, and location changes getting in the way. But will the pair realize their feelings for each other and get together before it's too late?

Laurel and Hardy II - Way Out West/Block-Heads (DVD) Laurel and Hardy II - Way Out West/Block-Heads (DVD) » Laurel and Hardy II - Way Out West/Block-Heads (DVD)

These two Laurel and Hardy films, made towards the end of their contracts with the Hal Roach Studio, are widely recognized as examples of the comedy duo`s greatest masterpieces. WAY OUT WEST (1937) follows the boys as they travel westward, on a mission to deliver a gold mine deed to it`s deceased owner`s daughter. Mary Roberts is the name of the heiress, but our heroes have never seen her before, and are easily duped by the nefarious saloon keeper, Mickey Finn (Laurel and Hardy regular James Finlayson) into thinking his wife Lola is Ms. Roberts. Once they realize their mistake, the boys try to break into the saloon to steal back the deed, resulting in some hilarious antics and a mule on the roof. Then, in BLOCK-HEADS (1938), Stan is discovered wandering the trenches 20 years after WWII; never having been informed of the cease-fire, he simply continued to carry out his orders. His old pal Ollie comes to collect him, mistaking him for an amputee and carrying him to the car before realizing his mistake. Ollie takes Stan home for dinner, which infuriates his wife, so she leaves them to their own devices, and the two initiate a remake of the scenario of their first talkie, UNACCUSTOMED AS WE ARE. Needless to say, they make a disaster of the kitchen, as well as a fast and furious string of classic gags.

I Don't Know What Your Eyes Have Done to Me (DVD) » I Don't Know What Your Eyes Have Done to Me (DVD)

The life of dancer Ada Falcon was remarkably accomplished, as befits someone who was often referred to as The Empress of Tango. Her glittering achievements saw Ada performing all over the world in the first half of the 20th century, and her star appeared to be in a perpetual state of ascendancy. But 1942 saw a shocking turn of events, as Ada mysteriously vanished from view just as her fame seemed to be peaking. She never returned to the public eye, so in 2002, filmmakers Lorena Munoz and Sergio Wolf decided to retell her tale with this inventive movie about Ada's life. Drawing on vintage footage of the inimitable dancer, and a narrative that draws on the conventions of film noir to tell a dramatic tale, the suspense culminates in an appearance from Ada herself, who finally offers her side of the story. An anomalous slice of filmmaking that strives for originality throughout, I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR EYES HAVE DONE TO ME is an engrossing study of an elusive figure in the history of the dance world.
