Mel Brooks aims his pun-gun at the Dracula legend--and, particularly, at Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 film BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA--in this undead spoof. In DRACULA:
DEAD AND LOVING IT, Leslie Nielsen brings the deadpan humor of the NAKED GUN series to the role of the infamous vampire. Between its many sight gags and puns, the movie sticks fairly closely to the classic story line of previous screen versions, beginning with Renfield's (Peter MacNicol) visit to Count Dracula's creepy Transylvanian castle on legal business. The solicitor becomes Dracula's insect-munching slave and the two journey to London, where the count racks up more victims, most notably the busty Lucy Westenra (Lysette Anthony). When Dracula's archenemy, Dr. Van Helsing (Mel Brooks), attempts to end the vampire's reign of terror, oodles of mayhem and gallons of fake blood are let loose on Victorian London. As one would expect from Brooks and Nielsen, this particular Dracula--who is prone to falling down staircases and crashing into windows when he takes on bat form--becomes the butt of numerous jokes. The cinematic jokes are even better--many of them derived directly from Coppola's lush and innovative film techniques and the bad British accents that abound in his DRACULA film. Blake Edwards`s adaptation of Truman Capote`s classic novella is ideally cast with Audrey Hepburn in the role of Holly Golightly. The free-spirited gamine darts about New York, feted by wealthy men drawn to her megawatt charm and elegance, hoping that the party will never end. After

But she seems to need little protection from such friends as incarcerated mob boss Sally Tomato (Alan Reed), who pays her to carry messages to Sing Sing. With her infectious joi de vivre, she helps Paul break through a paralyzing case of writer`s block. But when the genial Doc Golightly (Buddy Ebsen) appears in New York in search of Holly, the sources of her gossamer lifestyle suddenly become clearer. Edwards`s lighter-than-air romantic comedy, set in a fantasy New York, rides on the irresistible charm of Hepburn at her peak, as well as a memorable score by Henry Mancini. Although George Axelrod`s screenplay is as different from the original story as George Peppard is from the young Capote, the film succeeds on its own terms.

Director Paul Mazursky's dark comedy, adapted from the play by actor Chazz Palminteri, stars Cher as Margaret, a rich and dissatisfied Westchester wife who is so neglected by her philandering and unfaithful husband, Jack (Ryan O'Neal), that she's considering suicide on the night of their 20th wedding anniversary. Things change, however, when she encounters Tony (Palminteri), a brooding, neurotic hit man hired by Jack to kill her while he's away with his office fling (Amber Smith). Tony barges into their expansive mansion and attacks Margaret, tying her up and informing her of the job he's been hired to do. But Tony has been instructed to wait for Jack's signal--the phone will ring twice--and while they wait the pair becomes embroiled in a witty and clever conversation covering a wide range of topics and revealing each other's hidden insecurities and faults. In the process, Tony and Margaret become strangely attracted to each other, drastically altering the outcome of Jack's devious plan. Almost all the action takes place within the walls of Margaret and Jack's home, recalling the film's theatrical origins and intensifying the mood and heightened tension between the killer and his target. Roxanne (Darryl Hannah) a beautiful astronomer in search of a comet, and Chris a hunky but inarticulate fire expert who has been hired to train C.D.'s team of well-meaning firemen. C.D. immediately falls in love with Roxanne but he is sure that she won't notice anything about him except his extremely prominent facial feature and is quick to hide his passionate desires. However, Roxanne has captured the fancy of another, Chris. When C.D. learns of Chris's crush, he uses his gift for poetry to help the inexperienced courtier capture her affections. Wooed by the beauty of the words, Roxanne falls for Chris, not realizing that C.D. was the one really doing the talking. Of course, when put to the test, Chris does not live up to Roxanne's expectations and she quickly learns the identity of her real poetic suitor.
