Rebound (DVD) Rebound (DVD) » Rebound (DVD)

In the tradition of THE BAD NEWS BEARS comes another family sports comedy, REBOUND. Martin Lawrence stars as superstar college basketball coach Roy McCormick, who is clearly more interested in his social status than he is in the game that made him famous. Unfortunately, when he accidentally kills the pet bird of the opposing team`s mascot, he`s suspended. The only way to make a return to the big time is if he is able to prove that he has his temper in check. Enter the bumbling players of McCormick`s alma mater, Mt. Vernon Jr. High School, who goad McCormick into being their coach. The only trouble is that the last thing McCormick wants to do is coach a bunch of uncoordinated losers. Gradually, however, Coach McCormick begins to see the world differently when his players show signs of actual promise. And as he finds himself falling for the mother (Wendy Raquel Robinson) of his star player, Keith (Oren Williams), the life that he left behind doesn`t seem so appealing anymore. Directed with flair by Steve Carr (DR. DOLITTLE 2, DADDY DAY CARE), REBOUND features an impressively toned-down Lawrence, as well as a slew of hilarious supporting turns (including Megan Mullally and Patrick Warburton).

Mail Order Wife (DVD) Mail Order Wife (DVD) » Mail Order Wife (DVD)

Filmed in mock documentary style, this dark comedy follows filmmaker Andrew Gurland`s misguided attempts to document the mail-order-bride process. The documentary`s main subject is Adrian (Adrian Martinez), an overweight security guard who lives in a dumpy house in the Queens borough of New York City, and drives a beat-up El Dorado. After finding no success in the dating world, Adrian decides to purchase a wife through a mail-order catalogue, with the documentary production company funding the venture in exchange for the rights to film it. After writing each other several letters, a young Burmese woman named Lichi (Eugenia Yuan) agrees to come to the United States and marry Adrian. Lichi`s expected role in Adrian`s is to cook chili and clean the toilet, revealing Adrian`s true character. But when he tries to trick Lichi into getting a sterilization procedure, Andrew (Gurland) attempts to intervene, feeling Adrian has gone too far. Next, Lichi shows up at Andrew`s doorstep to present evidence of Adrian`s abuse, and Andrew feels obligated to help her. As Andrew gets more and more personally involved with both Lichi and Adrian, he becomes a subject in his own film. Despite their obvious class differences and their dislike for each other, antagonists Andrew and Adrian have more in common than either will admit.Filmmakers Gurland and Huck Botko (who use their own names for the characters they play in the film) exploit the comedic potential of the documentary format while also forcing the audience to question their narrator. By making the audience laugh at the most uncomfortable, politically incorrect moments, the filmmakers succeed in making a statement about female objectification and the power imbalances inherent in male-female relationships. Satirical and hilarious, this film is a true original.

Vulgar (DVD) Vulgar (DVD) » Vulgar (DVD)

First-time writer-director Bryan Johnson may be best known as a member of filmmaker Kevin Smith's View Askew universe (he played Steve-Dave in MALLRATS and DOGMA), but those expecting VULGAR to be another version of CLERKS might be surprised by this off-kilter drama that is best described as Bozo the Clown meets DELIVERANCE. Brian O'Halloran (Dante from CLERKS) plays Will, aka Flappy the Clown, an earnest, downtrodden guy desperately trying to make a living as a clown. Will is a constant target of abuse--from the drunks flinging projectiles on his ratty lawn to his nursing home-bound mother's streams of vitriol. Barely scraping by, Will has an epiphany about how to make more money--by hiring himself out for bachelor parties as Vulgar, a clown sporting a bustier and garters. On his first outing, Will instead finds himself in a terrifying situation with the psychotic Ed (Jerry Lewkovitz) and his two inbred sons. After a life-changing violation that Will only reveals to his friend, Syd (Johnson), some luck finally comes his way via a television executive (a cameo from Kevin Smith). However, more trouble awaits the put-upon clown in Johnson's dark, disturbing tale.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull ScreenAudio: Dolby Digital Stereo - EnglishAdditional Release Material: TrailerInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Selection

Director Rich Murray puts the Philadelphia hip-hop scene on the cinematic map with SNIPES, an urban crime thriller that breathes fresh life into the genre. Erik (Sam Jones III) is an ambitious teenager who spends more time posting flyers for his favorite rapper, Prolifik (Nelly), than sitting in the classroom. When he and his best friend stumble across a dead body one night, they trigger a series of tragic events. It turns out Prolifik, as well as the master tapes for his new record, have been kidnapped by a gang of thugs who want Bobby Starr (Dean Winters), the ruthless president of Prolifik's label, to dish out a meaty ransom. If he doesn't, they promise to make sure Bobby's uncle and chief investor, the dangerous Johnny Marandino (Frank Vincent), knows just how carelessly Bobby has been spending his money. Through a misunderstanding, Erik becomes the target of Bobby Starr, as well as the kidnappers. Fearful for his own life, as well as his father's, Erik must find a way to get his hands on the master tapes, before Bobby Starr gets his hands on him. Murray's energizing film boasts credible performances (especially from rap superstar Nelly) and a pulsating hip-hop soundtrack. This film screened in April 2002 in New York City as part of the Gen Art Film Festival.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreen - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital Stereo - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Audio Commetary - 1.
