It is Christmas Eve for most of the Christian world, but when Craig (Ice Cube) and Day-Day (Mike Epps) are rudely awaken by a burglar in a Santa suit, it is definitely another FRIDAY in the ghetto. The phony Santa gets away with all the cousins' Christmas gifts and their overdue rent money after assaulting Craig with a paltry Christmas tree. Cops are called in and do little more than confiscate Craig and Day-Day's pot stash. Though the cousins may be used to such adversity in the'hood, they have never before had to think about getting real jobs in order to pay the bills. This third installment in the hip-hop stoner series follows L.A.'s lovable losers through their first day as rent-a-cops at a South Central strip mall.As each problem they encounter becomes more and more ridiculous, screenwriter and star Ice Cube and first-time director Mark Raboy have constructed an irreverent African-American holiday farce. The film builds to a fever pitch at a holiday party where nearly every character in the film shows up for a wild finale. The supporting cast delivers outrageously amusing portraits of ghetto stereotypes while composer John Murphy paces the film by deftly blending hip-hop with traditional film scoring.

Vladimir Ivanoff (Robin Williams) is a Russian saxophone player for the Moscow circus. Life in Russia is difficult and unrewarding, but he silently accepts the corruption of the Communist party and the constant threat of KGB spies because he enjoys his job, has a steady girlfriend, and loves his family. However, his friend Anatoly (Elya Baskin) dreams of freedom in America and makes plans to defect when the circus announces an American tour to New York. Their trip to the Big Apple is thrilling, full of exciting revelations, and on their last day in New York they are allowed 30 minutes to shop in Bloomingdale's, surrounded by tempting American merchandise. While Anatoly loses his nerve, Vladimir is awakened with the desire to defect and manages to outrun the KGB. Suddenly Vladimir is a free man with no family or friends and no chance of ever returning to his homeland. With the help of a Bloomingdale's security guard (Cleavant Derricks) and a pretty Italian makeup counter saleswoman (Maria Conchita Alonso), Vladimir finds a place to stay and a wide variety of odd jobs to start out his new life in the United States. As Vladimir struggles to make it in America, he longs for his family and his homeland, wrestling with the magnitude of his choice. Hollywood`s tradition of remaking classic movies continues with this 21st-century updating of the 1976 romp, THE BAD NEWS BEARS. Acclaimed director Richard Linklater (THE SCHOOL OF ROCK, DAZED AND CONFUSED) pays respect to Michael Ritchie`s original film by updating it rather than reinventing it. Stepping into the tough-to-fill shoes of Walter Matthau, Billy Bob Thornton plays the liquor-swilling, foulmouthed Morris Buttermaker, who has agreed to coach a Little League team for the paycheck. Unfortunately for him, his assembled team consists of the league`s most inept outcasts. Gradually, however, Buttermaker`s determination wins out, to the point where he recruits an ex-girlfriend`s gifted daughter, Amanda Whurlitzer (Sammi Kane Kraft), to step onto the pitcher`s mound. The team is complete when local bad boy Kelly Leak (Jeffrey Davies) lends his overflowing talent to the cause. Soon, the Bears are climbing their way to the top of the standings, resulting in a championship showdown with the Yankees, who are managed by the ridiculously pompous Coach Bullock (Greg Kinnear).As with 2003`s THE SCHOOL OF ROCK, Linklater proves he has an uncanny ability to draw out compelling performances from child actors. But it is Thornton who steals the show. Incorporating elements from his characters in BAD SANTA and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, his variation on the Morris Buttermaker character is another finely crafted achievement, a reprehensible man who somehow remains likeable and compelling. The script from Glenn Ficarra and John Requa throws a few modern curveballs into the mix, yet they still remain faithful to Bill Lancaster`s original vision, resulting in a crowd-pleasing film that is definitely not intended for young children.
