Vin Diesel is great as a navy seal turned babysitter in this kid-friendly action comedy. A botched rescue mission (brimming with stunts) results in the death of a scientist and the hospitalization of seal team-leader Shane Wolf (Diesel). Once he recovers, he is assigned to duty as a bodyguard for the dead man's family. But even for a seal--toughened to the point of stoniness--dealing with the chaos, smells, noises, and complexities of a large, fatherless family proves to be a heavy challenge. The kids don't like his authoritative ways and they have no problem defying him at every turn. Eventually everybody bonds and while the family teaches him to listen and relax, he teaches them the combat skills they need to succeed in suburban Los Angeles. It's all very funny but the film really works best as a showcase for the range of Diesel; he takes his pratfalls in stride, his character's devotion to military discipline and honor is inspiring; and his bonding with the family is sweet without being saccharine. What's more, he still gets the chance to kick some serious bad-guy butt. Lauren Graham (BAD SANTA) plays the kindly grade school principal and love interest.
EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND's Brad Garrett is hilarious as a sadistic wrestling coach. There's also a crotch-biting pet duck, ninjas, sewer-diving, a troop of kung fu-fighting girl scouts, and the hilarious Panda Dance.

Predicated on the observation that an old Sicilian shoeshine man looks pretty much the same as an old Sicilian mafia don, THINGS CHANGE finds comedy and pathos in a case of very mistaken identity. Italian-American acting legend Don Ameche plays Gino, a man with a simple life who is recruited by an underworld boss to take the rap for a murder. Jerry (Joe Mantegna) is assigned to sit on Gino until he goes to confess, and he feels compelled to offer the quiet old man one last good time--in Lake Tahoe, where everyone mistakes Gino for a mob big shot. Soon the pair are getting the royal treatment, while Gino's shoeshine-shop wisdom keeps everyone fooled into thinking he's a powerful man with a humble demeanor. Director David Mamet gets laughs the hard way, developing characters and setting up believably comic situations for them to interact in, even as he lets the tension regarding Gino's fate mount. He also indulges the taste for hoaxes that he explored more seriously in HOUSE OF GAMES and THE SPANISH PRISONER. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are an unbeatable combination as two Washington DC lawyers who get their kicks, and their girls, by crashing weddings. Displaying talent, wit, intelligence, and ample charm, the pair seldom fails at their mutual mission of seduction. But eventually they get bored with the routine. Everything explodes when they crash an upper-crust wedding given by US Senator William Cleary (Christopher Walken). Jeremy (Vaughn) makes the ostensible mistake of seducing Cleary`s sexually ravenous daughter Gloria (Isla Fisher) and John (Wilson) falls head over heels for the beautiful, slightly sarcastic older sister, Claire (Rachel McAdams). But Claire is nearly engaged to a slimy, macho, ivy-league snob played with beady-eyed gusto by ALIAS`s Bradley Cooper. The boys get lured away on a weekend trip to the Cleary`s estate, which is when the film begins to resemble an early 1930s pre-code comedy with its innuendo-filled banter, eccentric grandmothers, suspicious rivals, and copious bed-hopping.Vaughn`s motor-mouth aggression plays off Wilson`s irresistible sensitivity (and vice versa) to such perfection that they leave other contemporary romantic comedy teams in the dust. They manage to get plenty of laughs and warmth from their believably close male friendship without resorting to any clichid homoerotic references. Their respective love interests are also outstanding, particularly McAdams who displays extraordinary wit and presence in addition to her stunning beauty. Walken is surprisingly low-key as the senator, tuning his usual craziness down to a few tensile stares. Seventies mini-series staple Jane Seymour is memorable as the senator`s sex-starved, boozed-up wife, who makes a play for John.
