The NATIONAL LAMPOON stable has produce some hugely funny comedy over the years. From the seemingly endless stream of VACATION movies, to books, and even a cross-country buffalo wings eating championship. On TOONED UP, the team renders some animated versions of hilarious stand-up and sketch comedy, with results that viewers may find causes a known, and some would say, deeply troubling, medical condition which goes by the name of: sidesplitting laughter!

The Ecstasy-fueled youth culture of England is examined in this buoyant, good-natured film from 25-year-old newcomer, Justin Kerrigan. A group of young Welsh revelers, including Jip (John Simm), Lulu (Lorrain Piliongon), and Koop (Shaun Parkes) endure their mundane jobs all week, and then cut loose on a typically wild Friday night of dancing, drinking, drugging, shagging, and then recovering in order to deal with their parents come Sunday. The film's guileless pro-drug stance may prove off-putting to more jaded and conservative American audiences, but as a peak at England's thriving 1990s counterculture, it's a fun, fascinating document, and a cheery companion to TRAINSPOTTING (which was obviously a huge inspiration). Kerrigan fills the film with lots of surreal and fantastical digressions, direct addresses to the camera, and quote-worthy bits of British slang. Energetic electronica pulses throughout for a dynamite score, which combines with the high-spirited performances of the cast and makes for good time, whatever your buzz may be. Vada's (Anna Chlumsky) only 13-years-old but she's already been through quite a bit: she's practically grown up without a mother, her best friend suffered a fatal injury and now her father (Dan Aykroyd) has re-married and started a new family. Despite it all, she's blossomed into well-rounded, coltish young lady. When her father and step-mom move the family to Los Angeles, Vada realizes she'll have to make a big adjustment. In the Farrelly Brothers' ME, MYSELF& IRENE, Jim Carrey plays Charlie Baileygates, a Rhode Island State Trooper who develops a split personality disorder after his wife leaves him for an African-American midget genius. Due to years of denial and repression while raising triplet sons left behind by his wife and her lover, Charlie finally gets fed up with people taking advantage of his meek nature and snaps, taking on a lewd, aggressive second personality named Hank. Soon afterwards, Charlie is assigned by the police department to protect a woman named Irene (Renee Zellweger), who's being followed by some shady characters who want her dead. As the pair attempt to outwit their pursuers, the kind-hearted Charlie begins to fall for Irene, while battling his sleazy alter ego, Hank.Back in full comedy mode after his more dramatic roles in THE TRUMAN SHOW and MAN ON THE MOON, Carrey once again displays his outlandish brand of physical humor. As with any Farrelly Brothers film, there are plenty of grossly funny yet good-natured moments. (In fact, Charlie's loving relationship with his three brilliant half-African-American sons is one of the film's best and funniest subplots.) Above all, it is the way that Carrey juggles the extreme personalities of Charlie and Hank--basically waging war against himself--that shows why he is one of Hollywood's best comedic actors.
