Dodgeball/ Office Space - 2 Disc Set (DVD)

In DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn team up once again (following STARSKY & HUTCH) for another comic romp. While hilariously satirizing modern-day gym culture, the film also celebrates a sport that has previously been relegated to the elementary school playground. Peter La Fleur (Vaughn) owns the decrepit Average Joe`s gym, which has been losing its clients ever since the glitzy Globo Gym opened up across the street. White Goodman (Stiller), Globo Gym`s main spokesman, is a preposterously vain egomaniac on the cusp of taking over La Fleur`s failing business. La Fleur learns from a beautiful attorney (Christine Taylor) that if he doesn`t come up with $50,000 in 30 days, his career running a gym will be over. Potential salvation arrives in the form of a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament, but conquering a sport one hasn`t played in several decades isn`t such an easy feat. Fortunately for Peter, he finds a coach for his team: the hardheaded, ex-superstar Patches O`Houlihan (Rip Torn). As Peter and his ragtag team make their way to the championship in Las Vegas, they must contend with White, who has assembled a team of his very own.

OFFICE SPACE: Peter (Livingston) is an office drone who feels that every day of his life is the worst yet. After an incident involving a hypnotist, Peter stops caring about his job, ignoring his work and goofing off. When office consultants find out, they see his attitude as proof that Peter is management material. Director Judge (of BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD and
KING OF THE HILL ) makes a surprisingly intelligent, hysterical commentary on office life, and this memorable picture firmly establishes Judge as a voice to pay attention to.

Set in a dull New Jersey town, this melancholic comedy from director Eric Weber follows in the tradition of films such as SIDEWAYS and AMERICAN SPLENDOR by focusing on the mid-life doldrums of disgruntled white men. Self-proclaimed loser Elliot (Joe Pantoliano) has dreams of becoming a published author, but he suffers from serious emotional and professional stagnancy. His publishing goal might not be so farfetched if he spent half as much time pursuing it as he does complaining to anyone who will listen. Set on the notion that life has dealt him a bad hand, Elliot relentlessly burdens his neighbors and friends with confessional stories about the pains of feeling inadequate. In an effort to get his work out there, Elliot whittles his life`s disappointments down to depressing one-page essays, which he signs The Biggest Loser. He pays a local high-school dropout to post the essays around the neighborhood once a week. Read aloud by Elliot, these defeatist columns form the film`s narration. When his old pal Richard (Boyd Gaines), who left town and became a successful Hollywood film producer, comes back to visit, Elliot finds himself scrambling to make sense of his life. Richard`s presence triggers something in Elliot, and unleashes a deep-seated jealousy that has been growing for years. Over the course of Richard`s tumultuous visit, Elliot, Richard, and their friends are each forced to reexamine how they measure success. While Elliot is at times an unsympathetic and unlikable character, he is very realistic, and SECOND BEST, with its honest performances, is an unglamorized study of unrealized dreams.
