Brothers Joseph and Jacques Montgolfier had a productive year in 1783 when they became the first humans to construct a hot air balloon safe enough to carry passengers. Technological advances have since relegated the balloon to novelty status in the race to become airborne. But briefly, on July 2nd, 1982, the balloon reentered the public consciousness, when truck driver Larry Walters tethered 45 weather balloons to a lawn chair, and took to the air. Larry`s experience forms the backbone to the plot in DANNY DECKCHAIR, with Rhys Ifans` starring as Walters`s cinematic doppelganger, Danny Morgan. Disgruntled with his life as a laborer in Sydney, Australia, Danny takes off--literally--by tying a bunch of balloons to a deckchair, and ascending to the skies. His flight ends in the sleepy town of Clarence, where he unceremoniously lands in the garden of Glenda Lake (Miranda Otto). The naive townsfolk he encounters in Clarence prove to be a grand source of inspiration to Danny, and he proceeds to teach them how to live life to the fullest, while enjoying a passionate romance with Glenda. But Danny`s past life is not totally behind him, and when it catches up to him, his blissful new existence comes under serious threat. This gentle comedy further asserts Ifans`s excellence as a comedy actor, bringing his usual mixture of quirkiness and humanity to the role of Danny. Miranda Otto provides an excellent foil for Ifans throughout, with both leads allowing writer/Director Jeff Balsmeyer to unravel a fairytale-like plot around them, providing a welcome dose of heartwarming family entertainment.

His Girl Friday (DVD) His Girl Friday (DVD) » His Girl Friday (DVD)

In Howard Hawks's screwball masterpiece adapted from the stage play THE FRONT PAGE by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, star reporter Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell), once married to suave editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant), plans to leave the stressful newspaper world behind and marry a boring insurance agent. Walter won't reveal his feelings for Hildy but tries to keep her from leaving by convincing her to cover one last story, a politically motivated execution. When the convict manages to escape, chaos breaks loose, and Hildy finds herself working alongside Walter to break the story wide open.HIS GIRL FRIDAY is a loose, freewheeling gem featuring some of the fastest dialogue ever filmed (peppered with inspired ad-libbing by Grant and Russell, each appearing at comedic high points in their careers). Hawks, who changed the original story of two newspapermen into a battle of the sexes, keeps the frenetic action careening forward and allows a few slim but luminous notes of genuine affection to slip into Hildy and Walter's storm of hilarious verbal barbs, creating a potent and heartfelt classic that stands as one of the most influential comedies ever made.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep Case

Brewster's Millions (DVD) Brewster's Millions (DVD) » Brewster's Millions (DVD)

Director Walter Hill tries his hand at this adaptation of the oft-filmed novel by George Barr McCutcheon. Richard Pryor stars as Brewster, a penniless, struggling pitcher for a minor league baseball team. His luck changes when he is informed that a wealthy uncle has died, leaving him a vast fortune under one condition: in order to inherit the full amount, he must first spend 30 million dollars in thirty days. The caveat: he may not give it away, spend it frivolously, or tell anyone about the arrangement and at the end of the thirty days, no tangible assets may remain. Richard Pryor and John Candy both turn in excellent comic performances as two bush league baseball players thrust into the world of the wealthy, helping make BREWSTER'S MILLIONS a winner.DVD Features:Region 1 encoding
