Having spent a lengthy career in radio, Jack Benny made the leap to television screens for the first time in 1950. He brought most of his radio cast with him, and was joined by various special guests as he performed some clown-like skits for the general public. The TV show went out live, which meant some nerve-fraying action unfolded on the screen, with the often unpredictable Benny drawing on his enormous comic talent to pull together an often chaotic show. Monty Python is actually a comedy troupe consisting of British actors Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and American Terry Gilliam (BRAZIL, 12 MONKEYS). The troupe evolved from the Cambridge Footlight Society, a theatrical comedy troupe at Cambridge University. The collective was groundbreaking both in terms of its offbeat acting styles and radical approach to the most controversial subjects of the time, among them sex, politics, and race. Most of the Pythons have gone on to successful careers in entertainment, writing, acting, directing, and more.AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT consists of some of Monty Python's funniest sketches from their earliest years together. Director Ian MacNaughton leads John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Terry Gilliam on a hysterical romp through familiar Python locales. This includes pet shops; marriage counselor offices; odd London streets; upper-class twits; old ladies on motorcycles, fighting off milkmen; bank robbers; crazy flashers; dirty forks; and killer jokes. The sketches have been re-created for the big screen, without the ever-present laugh track, but are still loaded with Gilliam's outrageously funny surreal animation. (Gilliam went through a plethora of different career paths before becoming a director, and at one point was working as an illustrator in a Los Angeles advertising agency.) As in the television show, the skits are linked together through clever animation as well as by characters in uniform (Graham Chapman, in this case) proclaiming, I'm warning this film not to get silly again. Among Monty Python's favorite targets are the military, the police, the British government, the courts, Mao, Uncle Sam, and television reporters. As always, there are lots of men in drag. Even the closing credits are a riot. But watch out for that 16-ton weight! AND NOW...

When notorious gangsta rapper Dr. S. (Damon Wayans) releases a controversial new CD, straightlaced senator Mary Ellen Sprinkle (Christine Baranski) calls for a boycott of his record label. Much to upstanding citizen and media mogul Ben Feld's (Richard Benjamin) chagrin and surprise, he owns the label, a shock that sends him straight to the hospital. Determined to help out her ailing father, stereotypical Jewish American Princess and Manhattan socialite Marci Feld (Lisa Kudrow) takes matter into her own hands and tries to clean up Dr. S.' act in hopes of fielding an apology from the hardcore rapper. Marci raps about fashion, takes the fast-talking ladies man to charity events where he woos her friends and other high society ladies, and wins over the attendees at his nightclub with interpretive dance. Along the way, this unlikely couple falls in love despite valiant attempts by Dr. S.' girlfriend, Yolanda (Paula Garces), to keep her man. Wayans' over-the-top wardrobe by itself is enough to garner a chuckle. STARSKY& HUTCH: Coming off the heels of his hilarious college romp OLD SCHOOL, director Todd Phillips returns with a film that mocks the television cop dramas of the 1970s. Based on the crime-fighting television series of the same name, STARSKY& HUTCH follows the exploits of two west coast detectives. David Starsky (Ben Stiller) is a by-the-books officer who would like nothing more than to expose his partner Hutch's bouts of inconsistency. Ken Hutch Hutchinson (Owen Wilson) is a far more open-minded spirit with a tendency for meandering. Added to the mix is the world's coolest informant, Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg), who wears an endless parade of stylish outfits. Starsky and Hutch's rival is the charming yet brutal Reese Feldman (Vince Vaughn), a maniacal drug lord with an absurd moustache who is prone to dramatic outbursts.
