Director Brian Levant (BEETHOVEN) goes to the dogs again in Disney's SNOW DOGS. Cuba Gooding, Jr. stars as Ted Brooks, a successful Miami dentist who finds out that he was adopted, and has to travel to Alaska for the reading of his birth mother's will. There, he meets the small community of crazies that were his mother's friends. Barb (Joanna Bacalso), a beautiful bar owner, is the most welcoming. Ted learns that he has inherited his mother's property, including her team of rambunctious sled dogs. A crusty old-timer, Thunder Jack (James Coburn), tries to buy the dogs, but Ted decides he will learn how to race a dogsled, and enter the Arctic Challenge, a local race. Handling the mischievous pooches, particularly the alpha dog, Demon, turns out to be much harder than expected. Levant keeps the action moving at a swift pace, particularly during Ted's hilariously disastrous first run with the dogs. Gooding clowns like a pro, and Coburn is wonderful as the grizzled dogsled veteran. Kids will fall in love with all the dogs, who are given animated facial expressions. Nichelle Nichols (of STAR TREK fame) plays Ted's mom, and pop star Sisqo plays his best friend back in Miami.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAudio: TBDAdditional Release Material: TBDInteractive Features: Scene Access Interactive Menus

The Late Show (DVD) The Late Show (DVD) » The Late Show (DVD)

Art Carney stars as aging gumshoe Ira Wells in Robert Benton's affectionately offbeat homage to the detective genre. With a bad leg, a hearing aid, and a bleeding ulcer, the sixtysomething private investigator, who lives in a seedy L.A. boardinghouse, is well past his physical prime but still manages to make ends meet at his trade. When Margo (Lily Tomlin), a ditsy 1960s refugee in her thirties, tries to hire him to find her missing cat, Ira's enthusiasm is limited. But after agreeing to help her, he realizes that Ron Birdwell (Eugene Roche), the fence who stole her cat, may also be involved in the death of his partner, Harry (Howard Duff). As Ira continues his investigation into his partner's death, Margo proves to be sharper than her appearance suggests, and the two begin an uneasy alliance. While more than fulfilling the required twists of the genre, THE LATE SHOW is less about the murder mystery than the seriocomic relationship that develops between the two idiosyncratic protagonists. The chemistry between Carney and Tomlin is nearly perfect, and Benton's subtle script (nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Academy Award) is able to suggest both the loneliness and the shared qualities that bring this seemingly disparate pair together.DVD Features:Region 1Snap CaseWidescreen - 1.85Audio: Mono - English Mono - French

The Gorilla (DVD) The Gorilla (DVD) » The Gorilla (DVD)

Allan Dwan's adaptation of Ralph Spence's play was the first of
two efforts with the Ritz Brothers. When wealthy insurance broker Walter Stevens (Bela Lugosi) receives a death threat from a rampaging murderer known only as'the Gorilla' he hires a trio of private detectives Garrity (Jimmy Ritz), Harrigan (Harry Ritz) and Mulligan (Al Ritz) for protection. When they arrive at the threatened time of murder, the detectives question Stevens' servants, and his niece Norma (Patsy Kelley) and her fiance (Jack Marsden). At midnight, Stevens suddenly disappears, and the trio of shamuses scour the house for him. The gorilla suddenly appears only to quickly vaporize, terrifying the guests even more. One of Stevens' clients, Conway (Paul Harvey) arrives, claiming that the broker cooked up the gorilla
ruse to swindle his employer. Adding to the melee, an agent of the Security and Exchange Commission shows up, and seconds Conway's story, saying that Stevens mailed himself the death threat to deflect any suspicion away from himself. He leads the detectives through a series of mazelike hidden corridors where they find Stevens bound and gagged. The loopy Ritz Brothers as detectives must be seen to be believed. Horror movie stalwarts such as Lugosi (DRACULA) and Atwill (THE SON OF FRANKENSTEIN), also have amusing turns.DVD Features:Region 1

Popeye (DVD) » Popeye (DVD)

The classic comic strip and cartoon hero comes to life in Robert Altman's film adaptation of the adventures of the spinach-munching sailor. After he's thrown from his ship during a storm, Popeye (Robin Williams) finds refuge in a quaint seaside town. There he rents a room from the Oyls and meets their daughter Olive (the perfectly cast Shelley Duvall). Olive is engaged to Captain Bluto (Paul Smith), a bully and ruffian who is in charge of collecting taxes for the mysterious Commandant. Popeye, who was orphaned at an early age, is in the midst of a desperate search for his missing father, but what he doesn't realize is that the shipwreck has brought him unexpectedly close to his final destination. In bringing his own distinct vision to E. C. Segar's legendary hero, Altman creates an atmosphere that is breezy, loose, and filled with slapstick shenanigans. Williams portrays Popeye with a physically comic flair that is both honest and energetic--as do the rest of the cast members, including frequent Altman contributors Duvall, Paul Dooley, and David Arkin. Harry Nilsson's songs add to the lighthearted affair, making POPEYE an enjoyable family viewing experience all around.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English
