Prominent African-American playwright and theater producer Shelly Garrett wrote the play BEAUTY SHOP, presented here in a production that was staged especially to be filmed. The local beauty shop has just been bought by Big Mama Lucille, named such not because of her size but for her larger than life personality. The shop is manned and frequented by an unforgettable cast of characters who engage in gossip about a bevy of subjects, always managing to be funny and understanding no matter what comes up. BEAUTY SHOP is a feel-good stage comedy that was the basis for a short lived TV series called NEW ATTITUDE.
