Set in San Francisco at the height of the Internet boom, IPO takes a sobering look at a generation whose hopes rose and fell with the dot-com explosion and subsequent bust. Sophia dreams of a more prosperous career, Susan falls in love with her new car, and many of the rest of the characters base their futures on the fragile success of a website called HotTot.com. The film, which is shot in digital video and incorporates a good deal of improvisation, explores the complexity of relationships in the Internet age.
